Black Forest Festival Magic: CORS and the Charm of the Klostersommer

The Klostersommer in Calw is always a special highlight for CORS employees, because it feels like a production among friends. The open-air festival in the heart of the Black forest not only attracts visitors with a rich cultural program, but also presents a number of challenges.

Klostersommer for over 15 years

Stage within the monastery walls

Since its foundation in 2008, the small festival has found its permanent home in the cloister of the St. Peter’s monastery ruins in Calw and attracts up to 15,000 visitors every year. The diverse program, which ranges from classical music, folk music and pop hits to pop and comedy, appeals to a wide audience.

Setting up the Klostersommer: logistical challenges and teamwork

The preparations for a smooth set-up are made by Tony, one of the managing directors of CORS and an experienced master of event technology. This phase requires careful planning and coordination between various partners. From CreationPark, the supplier of the stage elements, to the customer Concetera and the technical service provider Media Ressource Group, deliveries have to be coordinated, cranes organized and construction aids such as narrow forklift trucks provided.

The narrow access routes to the old monastery courtyard and the protection of historical elements such as fountains and monastery walls pose a particular challenge. This requires a high degree of logistical skill to bring all the necessary materials and equipment safely to their destination. Even the imposing round arches of the stage have to be lifted over the walls with a crane, while the front of house, the centerpiece of the lighting and sound technology, has to be flown in individual parts behind the grandstand and assembled there. In addition, a ramp is built through all the arched windows and between the walls to create a solid surface for workers and artists.

Despite these challenges, the CORS team is always highly motivated and determined to master this task. Under the expert guidance of Tony and a dedicated head crew, six scaffolders, four steelhands and two forklift drivers are fully committed to the successful assembly.

The secret of the Klostersommer

What really makes the Klostersommer a unique project for CORS, however, is not only the challenging work, but also the warm atmosphere that surrounds the festival. The accommodation in the Bärental boarding house, which is run by a young and hospitable landlord, not only offers ideal proximity to the construction site, but also a personal touch that is greatly appreciated by the employees. The catering, prepared by a lovely elderly lady whose cevapcici are praised by the staff as the best, also contributes to the feeling of well-being. Not forgetting the organizer Jürgen Ott and his wife, whose warmth and commitment make the festival a family event.

All in all, the Klostersommer is not only a cultural highlight in the Black Forest, but also a special experience that inspires CORS employees anew every year.
